"We breed quality not quantity"

American Pit Bull Debate

Posted by LEE BOOTH on November 16, 2010 at 9:50 AM

You don't need to look very hard or be very bright to come to the conclusion that pit bull attacks sell papers. The ASPCA issued a statement that the media has repeatedly told them that they have no interest in reporting attacks involving non-pit-bull-type dogs.

The Pit Bull was so popular in the early 1900's they were our mascot not only in World War One, but World War Two as well.Sgt. Stubby,A Pit Bull war hero  was wounded in action twice, he saved his entire platoon by warning them of a poison gas attack and he single handedly captured a German spy.

So News Reporters,News Papers and TV Stations why don't you cover a story about Pit Bulls and every time There's a fatal dog attack if the culprit is not a pit bull the Media and the public seems to forget about the story rather quickly and the story never makes it out of the state. Why don't you make a story about the prejudice against these Dogs and tell the public that Pit Bulls score an 83.4% passing rate with the American Temperament Test Society. That's better than the popular Border Collie (a breed who scores 79.6%.)

And dont forget we never hear anything good about pit bulls either! My dog saved my life I had a guy come into my house, and lets just say I'm female and the guy had been watching my home because I had just gotten home about 5 minutes before that and it was late. And he wasnt trying to steal or he would have least tried grabbing my purse that was sitting right on the table! But thanks to Kyro, one of my 'kids' barking and growling before I even knew what was going on the guy rushed out of my house and into his car and sped off. I tried to get someone to mention in a paperor anything that my PIT BULL SAVED ME! There are so many HERO stories out there than involve pitties, Just know one wants to know the truth about the breed..that they are loyal, smart, courageous, and beautiful animals. People believe what they want, and unfortunatley no one will know a pibble until they own one and experience its love first hand.

The Press is totally unfair. If an attack happens and its by a lab or smaller breed dog, then its reported but not on a major scale. But if a pitbull does it, its makes CNN and its like 9/11!! The lab can bite someone and its like OMG, that was one bad lab. No one wants to destroy the breed but when it comes to one bad pit, the whole breed is condemened.

Thank God for some of the Pit Bull friendly shows on Animal Planet now. They are definitely helping, I believe. I can say that PA, in the Central part of the State (not the Philly area), things are pretty good for the breed. Yes, any and all APBT incidents are reported, but there are no specific breed laws in the York/Harrisburg/Lancaster area, and you see Pits will all types of families when you go to vet events, pet shops, and hanging out of windows in cars. Harrisburg has even had a Get to Know the Pit Bull event at its largest park. Rescues, Vet offices, and other Pit-friendly organizations did a huge event in which they introduced the breed to the public and conducted an adoption drive. Hopefully, this kind of thing passes on throughout the country. I don't see many of the major city areas ever becoming friendly though, as the damage done to the reputation of the breed has gone too far.
